Entertainment Area
At the back of the property where the view is the best, we built an entertainment area. It consists of several small (<10sqm) decks which are off, but close to, the ground and some have low roofs (<2.1m). we designed it that way so the area and its structures doesn’t trigger development and/or building approvals as defined in the Brisbane City Plan 2014.
Having a space to relax while watching the build evolving is something special. We have the luxury to be able to improve our outdoor living by adding an entertainment deck and a separate deck for our new spa bath. Not including the new spa bath, this was a relatively cheap addition with massive benefits. We use it as a spot to take a break from working and after work having a chilled time reflecting on what we have (or haven’t) achieved each day. It’s also a good time to plan the next steps.
The project was completed within 4 weeks for just under $6K. That was for materials only (not incl, the spa bath itself) which is phenomenal, material costs have definitely gone up lots recently. Having said that, we did use only high quality timbers and it does look the piece.
Planning includes designing the patios (taking into account the spa weight), getting a full dial-before-you-dig report, engaging a qualified and competent earthmoving company and picking timber suppliers.
Hardwood all the way, large stirrups and roofing iron. Nice and very simple.
Dig piers, buy materials that are the correct size for the job and get the tools out.
Keep it simple and safe, getting the spa delivered and installed ready to enjoy.
