Engineering & Soil Testing

Some might think that engineering plans are very straightforward from an owner builder’s perspective. We don’t have much (if any) input other than during the draft review period. Some suggested materials can be swapped, for example c-channel vs PFC steel beams or you may want to up the size of one or more framing walls from 70mm to 90mm. Generally, the engineers get it right first go (i.e. it will meet/exceed the relevant standards) so don’t worry about not understanding everything in the plans.

Make sure you do check the plans and ask questions if anything isn’t clear.

We made the mistake to not check the proposed beam structure which we ended up getting updated the day before the house raising started. Try to avoid that mistake!
