Scaffolding

Scaffolding is regulated by the Scaffolding Code of Practice 2021 (see our Reference Materials and Links post).

Scaffolding work means: ‘erecting, altering or dismantling a temporary structure that is or has been erected to support a platform and from which a person or object could fall more than four metres from the platform or the structure’.1

Where the deck height of the scaffold is more than four metres from ground or the surface below, a licensed scaffolder must be used.

There are literally hundreds of businesses that do scaffolding, so how to pick one that’s good? We picked a business that communicated effectively, (2) was licenced, (3) had good reviews, (4) was local and (5) was reasonably priced.

Things you must get before having the scaffold erected is a scaffold plan. Tale the time to review the plan and ask questions and if you’re not happy have the plan updated. Nothing more annoying if the platforms are in the wrong place (e.g. to close to the gutters) or if the scaffold isn’t reaching all the areas that you need it to.

During our preparation (initial painting) phase, we used BT Scaffold Hire run by Bahaa and his brother who have been absolutely fantastic.
