Cladding

Cladding is material applied to the outside of the house. When we say cladding, we only mean the boards, not trims etc.

Cladding is important as it forms a weather shield, functions as an insulator and at the same time improves the visual appearance (it can look really good).

There are a plethora of options to choose from. We went for chamfer boards (a type of weatherboard) to match the cladding of the original front section of our house. Nowadays, it is becoming more common to use completely different cladding at the back/top of the house to make it stand out. We prefer to keep the look-n-feel at least very similar to the original.

When choosing chamfer boards, make sure sure you check:

  1. the height and thickness (e.g. 138mm x 19mm)
  2. the type of treatment (e.g. LOSP)
  3. the lengths they come in (e.g. 5400mm)
  4. the quality, regardless of whether they are used or new
  5. the price /mtr
For $20,000 we can get about 1,800 linear metres which is about 250sqm. (at $60/lm)
