Windows and Doors

Windows (incl. hardware and safety)

All our windows are second+ hand, old, matching the original existing windows and full of character. They needed a lot of TLS, it took us months to restore them back to original.

All of them were sanded back, painted with primer/sealer/undercoat and two top coats. All hardware was removed, cleaned and put back on. All glass was cleaned and repaired (broken glass replaced) and strengthened with 3M Safety Window Films to ensure the glass is “up to Code” as required so they call will be certified as meeting compliance requirements.

This seems like a lot of work, which it was, and expensive but in al reality it was worth it and actually lots cheaper than new window. On average one double set of sash windows, including frame and safety window film cost less than $300, as opposed to $1,200. Times this by 20 and it adds up to be quite a difference.

We picked up a beautiful porthole window from someone on Facebook Marketplace for free (yes for free). Our friend Julian from Leadlight Craftsman restored some of the glass for us and it looks amazing.

Doors (incl. hardware)

Again, we have gone the up-cycling way. All doors are second+ hand, solid, heavy, old and also full of character. Like with the windows, We sanded them back, painted with primer/sealer/undercoat and two top coats. All hardware was removed, cleaned and put back on. Any glass was cleaned and repaired (broken glass replaced). The only new thing we bought were the hinges. They look and feel amazing, are rock solid and are lots cheaper than modern doors, even cheaper the most ugly of all…. the hollow core doors.

Window Frame Build

Started building the new window frames (28/4/25), they will look fantastic when installed.
